L.A. Creative Finishes specializes in hand painted faux wood graining and faux marbling. We create painted surfaces that look and feel like fine finished wood and polished stone.
Also known as Painted Wood, Faux Wood and Faux Bois, the need to replicate the look of wood has been explored and refined over time. Faux wood graining refers to the artistic imitation of wood or wood grains in various media. The craft has roots in the Renaissance with trompe l'oeil.
Graining is the practice of imitating wood grain on a non-wood surface in order to increase that surface's aesthetic appeal. Graining was common in the 19th century, as people were keen on imitating hard, expensive woods by applying a superficial layer of paint onto soft, inexpensive woods. Similarly, faux marbling is the art of imitating the different types of natural marble and stone. It ranges from simple limestone to intricate Italian veined marbles.
